Batteries and Accumulators System in Italy
The directive
Implementing the European Directive no. 1006/66 through enactment of the Legislative decree no. 188/2008, Italy has also moved its first steps towards the organised collection and proper treatment of all kinds of portable, automotive and industrial Batteries and Accumulators waste.
Responsibility
Also in this case, as to the WEEE, the responsibility for the collection and treatment of Batteries and Accumulators waste is at the charge of the producers, according to the fundamental principle introduced by the legislation.
Collective systems
The Batteries and/or Accumulators producer can choose whether to comply individually or through membership to one of the 10 collective systems with the obligations provided by the law. The goal is to arrange adequate collection systems to ensure consistent take-back and proper treatment of Battery and Accumulators Waste on the whole domestic territory, avoiding their landfill disposal.
